Google Adsense Ads making money from your contents

Google Adsense is an online advertising serving service (Advertising network) that displays contextual cost per click (CPC) or Cost per Impression (CPM) Ads on websites. By contextual, we mean that Adsense Ads are tailored to match contents on your website or blog. That way the Ads are relevant and hence increases the user experience.

Web publishers who subscribe to Google Adsense make money when a visitor to their website finds an Ad so interesting as to click on it. Web publishers make money from Google Adsense when a cost per click Ad on their websites or blogs are clicked on by a visitor. The visitor is then taken to the website of the advertiser (landing page) for more information about the Ad.

In the case of cost per impression (or more accurately cost per thousand impression), the web publisher makes money once the Ad is fully loaded (also called impression), when the blog or website is visited. This occurs whether or not the Google Adsense Ad is clicked.

The publisher has no way of choosing between cost per click or cost per click. It is the advertisers that decides this. Some advertisers choose a combination of both Ads.

To make money with Google Adsense, here are a few guidelines:

Write purposeful content

Adsense Ads are tailored to match contents on your website. Adsense send crawlers to each page on your website to find out what your website is all about and then look for Ads within Google Adword network that best matches contents on your website. The only way Adsense crawler will know what your website is about is if you write purposeful web pages.

Purposeful pages target specific keywords. For Adsense Ads on your website to be properly matched by your content, you should target specific keywords. Writing web pages that do not have purpose will lead to Adsense Ads on your website not being properly matched with your content, which will lead to fewer clicks on such Adsense Ads as a result of irrelevance. Fewer clicks mean poor conversion or earnings. When Adsense Ads are relevant, they will tend to attract the interest of visitors leading to more clicks.

Good Ad placement will increase earnings

Making money on Adsense also depends on your Ad placement. Position your Adsense Ads where your visitors will see them. Of course, visitors to your website will not click on your Ads if they do not see them. Therefore, find out where your visitors eyes usually go when they visit your website and place your Adsense Ads in those locations.

Ensure that the first Ad unit appears in the hottest Ad space on your website. This is because Adsense display ads in order of their earning potential. So, ads on the first Ad unit will likely earn more than those on the second Ad unit and so on. So, by ensuring that Ads that earn more gets the most clicks, you can increase your current adsense earnings without any increase in traffic.

Use Adsense channels to find out which Ad units perform the best on your website. With Adsense channels, you can research on best Ad placements for your website.

Customise your Adsense Units

You should also customise your Adsense Ads to blend with contents on your website. However, you must not do this in a deceptive way. It is always a good idea to remove borders from your Adsense Ad units. Adsense links should have the same colour and background as other on your website. Your Adsense Ads should look as part of your website.

How does Google Adsense work?

Google acts like middle man between advertisers and publishers. Advertisers use the Google Adword to setup their Ad campaign. In the Setup they select how-much they a willing to pay for a click or view, keywords they are interested in, regions of interest, and so on.

Publishers register via Google Adsense. Once accepted Adsense robots will crawl your blog or website for keywords. The blog will be matched with Ads from Adword with relevant keywords. If a visitor to a website clicks on an Adsense Ad, the advertiser is billed on Adword, while Google credits a share of this earning into the Adsense account of the publisher.

Adsense for Content Review

Google Adsense is an online advertising serving service that displays contextual Ads on websites. These ads are tailored to the content on each website and can either be pay per click or pay per impression. There are different Adsense formats, namely Adsense for content, Adsense for search, Adsense for games, Adsense for feeds, and Adsense for domains. This page will focus on Adsense for content, which is one of the most popular Adsense formats today.

Adsense for content comes in two forms namely Content Ad units and Link Ad units.

Adsense Content Ad units

Adsense Content ad units are very popular. Adsense for content ads are displayed directly on the website of the publisher. The Publisher creates and copies an Adsense code from the Adsense website and pastes same on the spot he wishes the ads to appear on his website. These Adsense ads may be in text, flash, image, or video. You can also choose from a wide range of ad units that can fit your website, from small ad units to medium ad units, from wide ad units to tall ad units. You can also customise ads to blend with your website.

There are two ways publishers can earn from the Adsense content ad unit, they are:
  • Pay per click, and
  • Pay per impression

In pay per click, the publisher makes money when a visitor clicks on an Adsense ad on the publisher’s website. In pay per impression clicks are not required, once an adsense ad that implements pay per impression is fully loaded the publisher will earn some money. Publishers cannot choose which of the methods ads displayed on their site must use. It is the advertiser that decides which method to use. Some advertisers use a combination of both methods.

If you are new to Adsense, content ads are the first type of Ad that you are likely to integrate on your website. This is because content Ads are easier to understand than other Adsense Ad formats.

Adsense Content Ads will display Ads tailored to contents on your website. For it to be effective, your website must be purposeful and written with your keywords in mind. If you write without using your keywords ads on your website will not be tailored to your content and this will result in low click-through rate.

Adsense allows publishers to place as many as 3 content Ad units on a web page. If possible use all three Adsense ad units on all your pages, this if done well will improve your earnings.

Adsense Link Units

New web publishers usually ignore Adsense link units, probably because they do not understand how it works. This is a big mistake. Link units display links to adsense ads on your website. If a visitor clicks on a link unit, the publisher does not earn immediately, rather the visitor is taken to a page where he will view Adsense ads related to the link clicked. The publisher makes money if this visitor clicks on any of the Adsense ads on the new page. Therefore, with link units you need two clicks to earn.

The links are made to match the content on your site. For example, if your page is optimised for the keyword mobile phones, your link ads may contain links like:
  • buy mobile phones
  • used mobile phones
  • Nokia mobile phones
  • mobile phones
For example, if your visitor clicks on buy mobile phones, he will be linked to Adsense ads related to buy mobile phones. If he clicks any of these ads, you will earn some money.

For Adsense link units to be effective they must be customised to blend to content on your website. Customise your Adsense link units to be the same colour and font as other links on your website. This will make visitors to see the ad links as part of your website. However, the link must be separated from other links on your website. Do not place it too near to existing links on your site.

You can have as many as 3 Link units on your website. If possible use all three Adsense link units on all your pages, this if done well will improve your earnings.

Do not ignore Adsense link units as they can add considerably to your Adsense earnings.
